LEV Monitor is another intuitive and cost effective product designed by the Flamefast Group of companies and manufactured at their headquarters in Warrington, Cheshire.

The LEV Monitor is a Digital airflow indicator and is supplied as a ‘one size fits all’ solution. This robust, battery operated unit can be installed onto any duct or wall and displays dynamic Arrow or Cross indicators, this coupled with ultra-bright Red or Green LED’s to provide an instantaneous health check of your LEV system.

Any LEV system installed should have been designed to ensure that any airborne contaminants are safely removed, however the improper use or maintenance of such a system can cause serious health risks for anyone working in the area.

Installing the LEV Monitor makes the worry and risk of having an unsafe working environment a thing of the past. Most people rely on mechanical pressure gauges, which carry inherent problems due to only being available for certain pressure ranges, so the indicated ‘safe area’ may not be the case for your system.

LEV Monitor effectively tells you if you have sufficient, or more importantly, insufficient air flow.   With a range of 2000Pa, the LEV Monitor is suitable for use with nearly all types of LEV system, and as an added safety feature, a minimum set point of 100Pa is in place to ensure the unit cannot be calibrated when your LEV system is switched off.

Have you ever heard of ‘Phil the Welder’?

Phil, a welder from Sheffield, developed the symptoms of Occupational Asthma when he was about 35, after working for 20 years. When diagnosed, the Doctor said it was Occupational Asthma because of exposure to welding fume.

Unfortunately, Phil’s is not an isolated case; the statistics released from the HSE annually continue to show staggering numbers of work-related respiratory disease. 36,000* people who worked during 2015/2016, plus 141,000 who have ever worked, are experiencing breathing or lung problems they think can be attributed to or compounded by work, with 14,000* new cases a year.

Phil’s situation is debilitating, and one that we, at Drake Lapthorn, hope to help you prevent happening to your employees or your client’s employees.

The installation of an LEV system can help reduce the severity or prevent work-related respiratory disease, the completion of workplace exposure monitoring can demonstrate if it is working.

Drake Lapthorn provides services that determine operator exposure levels to hazardous substances by taking a measurement of the hazardous substance in the air that the operator is ‘breathing in’ whilst undertaking the task.

Workplace Exposure Monitoring will establish whether the operator is being exposed to hazardous substances generated when undertaking work, at what level exposure is being experienced and whether these are below the appropriate workplace exposure limit.

Workplace Exposure Monitoring is undertaken for numerous reasons:

  • It is good practice to determine if controls in place, including LEV, are protecting operators and to what extent.
  • Identifying operations or tasks that may need further controls put in place, i.e. the installation of LEV.
  • Establishing a level of exposure that an LEV system, once installed, should provide to the operators.
  • Part of a routine Health Surveillance Program
  • To check the operator exposure level is below the workplace exposure limit for the substance.
  • Because the HSE wants you too…………

If you need assistance at your own premises, or that of a client, to establish operator exposure to hazardous substances please contact us via 01295 298469 or

Check out our website, for details on the range of services we offer to SME’s, including Health and Safety guidance, Health and Safety Training, Legionella Risk Assessments and Noise Assessments.

Supplier of Electronic Hi-Viz Airflow Indicators for the LEV industry.

Monitair Ltd have developed, manufacture and distribute the unique Chevron electronic airflow indicator. The Chevron is designed to continually monitor the static pressure in an LEV system and reassure the operator that it is working correctly. A dynamic moving display indicates either correct operation or a fault condition, such as a fan failure, broken or blocked ductwork.

The Chevron is powered by 2 AA batteries which last in excess of 14 months, and a battery monitor informs the user when these need to be changed.

The unit can be calibrated in seconds for use across the range of 200 to 2000 Pascals, so one size fits all.

With a very attractive price, minimal installation and an eye-catching design, it is not surprising that the Monitair Chevron is now in use 24 hours a day, across a wide range of LEV installations, including soldering stations, injection moulding machines, ducted fume cupboards, on-ship portable extractors and many more.

Occupational hygiene is the recognition, evaluation and control of risks within the working environment.

Using chemicals or other hazardous substances at work can put people’s health at risk, so the law requires employers to control exposure to hazardous substances to prevent ill health. The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH) (as amended) sets out how to protect both employees and others who may be exposed.

‘If you as an employer fail to adequately control hazardous substances, your employees or others may become ill. Effects from hazardous substances range from mild eye irritation to chronic lung disease or, on occasions, death.’ HSE Website

With over 30 years experience in Asbestos and Occupational Hygiene Management you can be confident that our highly trained and qualified staff will be able to ensure your company’s compliance with Health and Safety Regulations.
