Centrifugal Fan – IACS Non sparking standard UR F29
The IACS Non-Sparking Fan Standard (UR F29) provides guidance on fan construction and material selection where explosive atmospheres may be present. It is frequently referenced when specifying LEV systems for DSEAR-regulated environments.
The document outlines acceptable arrangements for preventing frictional sparking between rotating and stationary components and is relevant to designers, manufacturers and users of ventilation equipment.
This guidance should be considered alongside DSEAR risk assessments and equipment selection requirements.

LEVCentral Commentary
Although often referenced in fan specifications, many LEV practitioners are unfamiliar with the detailed requirements of UR F29. This can lead to inappropriate fan selection where explosive atmospheres are present. Designers should ensure DSEAR requirements are considered at the earliest stages of system design.
